Terms of membership

The agreement between you and Boxcrossing when you join a round and send or receive a parcel.

1. What membership is

Boxcrossing arranges rounds in which members send one another small gift parcels. Membership gives you the right to join rounds; it does not guarantee a place in any particular round, since every ring is assembled by hand.

2. Where things stand today

Boxcrossing does not yet take payment or buy shipping labels — those pieces are still being built. Joining a round today reserves your place without charging a card, and no address has been sent to a carrier yet. Clauses 3 to 7 describe the rules that will apply once payment, labels, refunds and cancellation go live; this page, and the checkout screen itself, will make that unmistakable before any card is ever charged.

3. What you pay

When you join a round you pay two amounts, shown separately before payment: the estimated postage for the declared format, and a service fee. The service fee covers the draw, the purchase of your label and support if a parcel goes astray. It is not a tax, and no further charge is added afterwards unless you choose to send a heavier format than the round's base weight — that extra postage is billed to you alone.

4. Your promise to send

Payment is a commitment to ship within the published window. If a parcel is not shipped by the deadline plus seven days:

  • the payment is not refunded;
  • the amount is used to compensate the member left without a parcel — their choice of a replacement parcel, a free spot in the next round, or a refund;
  • repeated failures end membership.

5. If something extraordinary happens

If illness, an accident, or something similarly outside your control stops you from shipping, contact us before the deadline. We can waive the default and refund your payment instead of applying it as compensation.

6. Your right to cancel

Before the draw, cancel your place at any time for a full, automatic refund. Once the draw happens the round has genuinely started for everyone in it, and cancelling from that point works the same as an accidental non-shipment (clause 4) — the standard rule for a service you've asked to begin right away.

7. Refunds

If a round does not fill, the full amount is refunded automatically to the original payment method. If the postage actually bought costs less than the estimate, the difference is refunded within five to ten business days.

8. Addresses and data

Addresses are collected for one purpose only: buying shipping labels once that's live (clause 2). They are stored encrypted and are never displayed to other members. There's no self-service deletion yet — write to hello@boxcrossing.com once you have no open round, and we remove it by hand.

9. What must not be sent

Members may not send food, liquids, batteries, perishable, hazardous or illegal goods, or anything subject to import restriction in the destination country. Parcels are the sender's legal responsibility.
